The Ten Commandments (and 200+ more commandments in the New Testament, for Christians, not just for Jewish people)

I enjoyed talking about the 10 commandments in the Bible with my new friend at work on the way to pick up mail at the post office. Someone said there are just seven commandments for non-Jews in the Bible, but I beg to differ--I think all 10 are for everybody, unless someone offers every day to God as holy, not just one in seven days, which is OK with God too. My dad counted over two hundred commands in the New Testament before he died. I guess the biggest one is "Ye must be born again." You've got the Adamic Covenant to be fruitful and multiply and be vegetarian, the Noahic Covenant to institute capital punishment and allow eating meat without blood, and the four simple rules for Greeks and former pagans following Jesus (and to remember the poor in Jerusalem) set by the apostles in the first Jerusalem counsel by Jesus' (Yeshua's) disciples after Jesus' resurrection and ascent into heaven. Any comments or questions?

The Good News Bridge
La Bonnovaĵa Ekpontegito

At First
En la komenco

Originally, mankind and God had fellowship with each other. God and Adam walked together in the Garden of Eden. Then Adam and Eve both sinned and were separated from God's presence. The Bible teaches in the first three chapters of Romans, and elsewhere, as in the Psalms, that all people, whether born in a heathen family, or Jewish family, or Christian family, have sinned. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

Bad News: Man’s Problem
Malbona Novaĵo:  Homara Problemo
In this picture we see man is separated from God. Man desperately tries to build his own bridges across to heaven. The most common way that man tries to get to heaven is through his own good works. But our good deeds are as filthy rags in the sight of a Holy God (Isaiah 64:6).

Other men try through ethics or good morals to reach God. But generally man does not live up to his own standard of values, much less God's standard of righteousness. Man is not able to keep the "Ten Commandments" which are only the elementary laws of God. The problem lies in man's deceitful heart (Jeremiah 17:9).

Nor is education the answer. Knowledge increases our feelings of guilt. God does not excuse our sin merely because we have been taught the truth. "For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified" (Romans 2:13)

"But surely religion will save us," some will say. No, not even religion will bring us back into fellowship with the Living God. Religion is good; it offers good advice. Religion tells us what we should do and should not do. But religion whether Buddhism, Daoism, Hindu, Islam, Jewish, Catholic or Protestant cannot forgive our sins and save our souls. Only God can do that. Sinful man does not need more religion. He needs a Savior.

Not only have all men sinned, but the result of sin is death. "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). Man was not created to die but to live in fellowship with God. Yet because of Adam's sin, man inherits death.

And that is not all. The Bible tells us "...it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). Judgment is certain...it is inevitable. Every person is judged by the Almighty God, and those whose sins are not forgiven are sent to hell, a place that was originally prepared for Satan and his demons (Matthew 25:41).

It is a terrible picture. Man cannot bridge the gap to heaven. Left to his own devices, man is helpless. Man is cut off from God and condemned by his own sins. Sin... death... judgment... hell. Man's condition is hopeless (Ephesians 2:12).

In this picture, however, we see that God in His great love provided a way of deliverance. God had a wonderful plan designed before the world began to bring sons and daughters back to live with Him forever. Only one man could bridge the gap that separated man from God. That man must belong both to man and to God. If he is not man he cannot represent us; if he is not God, he cannot save us.

So God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, that is, Yeshua (meaning Salvation or Becoming-Salvation) the Messiah (the King of Israel that the prophet of God anoints with oil and that God anoints with his presence or spirit), born as a man. Jesus is the Son of Man (or a new prototype of Man, destined to make things right), born of Mary (actually, Miriam, named after Moses' sister) the Son of God conceived through the Holy Spirit, which is the radiance of the Holy One, as best I can attempt to describe Him. He is not part man and part God, but 100% man and 100% God, at least that is visible to people on earth, the original light and LOGOS causing creation, emanating from God Himself--for the purposes of argument, God did not totally vacate his throne in Heaven to come down to earth, but remains the Heavenly Father. In Christian theology Yeshua (Jesus) is called "Very God" and "Very Man." There is but one qualified and worthy to become our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, that is, Yeshua the Messiah.

I will not attempt to contradict myself by describing Elohim (Hebrew for God, meaning "mighties", a plural word of more than double in number, yet used with a singular masculine verb when referring to God) as anything but a integral Oneness. For God is never lonely. God is One. Elohim used with a plural verb would refer to either mighty angels or mighty warriors. Another noun form is used for twins warriors...ask the local Hebrew scholar for grammar details, if you like.

Once Philip asked Jesus to show Him the Father, something he would not survive this side of eternity. "Philip said to him, 'Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.' Jesus said to him, 'Have I been with you such a long time, and do you not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father. How do you say, "Show us the Father?"' (John 14:8-9, World English Bible)

This man Jesus did many wonderful miracles, but we are not saved by the miracles of Jesus. He taught many beautiful lessons, but we are not saved by following the ethical teachings of Jesus. He healed many people from their sickness, but the healing of the body does not guarantee the healing of the soul. The fact is that we are not saved through all those marvelous things that Jesus did in His life. The life of Jesus demonstrated that He was the Son of God; but more is necessary for my salvation.
Jesus Christ had to die on the cross for my sins. Oh, the wonder of it all! Jesus died for me, and for you. The cross of Christ is the bridge from death to eternal life.

Yet Christ not only died to pay for my sins, He arose from the grave that I might be made righteous (Romans 4:25) and might live forever as a child of God. This is the Good News, the historic gospel, "...that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He arose again the third day according to the Scriptures" (1Corinthians 15:3,4).

Conclusion: Man's Response

Jesus died to save all men, yet all men are not saved. Why? Because God will not force you to believe. You have a choice, and that choice will determine your eternal destiny. How can you be saved?

Jesus says, "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my words and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life" (John 5:24, NIV). Since you have already heard Jesus’ words, you must only believe in order to possess eternal life.

Believe what? Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, was buried and rose again from the dead. Believe He is truly the Son of God, and accept Him as your personal Savior. When you do so, you have everlasting life. You will not be judged by God in the future or sent to hell, because all your past, present and future sins have been forgiven by God and covered by the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross. You have indeed already passed from death to life.

Jesus says, "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20, NIV). Jesus knocks at the door of your heart. To believe is to "open the door" and invite Jesus in.

Now that you have heard the Gospel, you need to answer several specific questions:

1.Do you understand this?

If you don't understand the basic facts of the gospel, you have no basis for faith. "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God" (Romans 10:17).

If you do understand this presentation, then...

2.Are you willing to believe right now?

Through faith alone you are saved; it is a personal decision of the will--your will.

If you are willing to believe now, then...

3.Will you pray aloud and ask Christ to come into your heart?

"For whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10:13). To be saved:

the mind must be enlightened,

the emotions must be stirred,

the will must be changed.

Pray in your own words something like this:

Dear Father in heaven, I acknowledge that I am a guilty sinner and deserve Your judgment. But I believe that You loved me and sent Your Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for my sins. I pray that Jesus will come into my heart, forgive my sins, and give me eternal life. Amen.

The Next Step...

If you have prayed this prayer:

Please tell us!

Read through the Bible this year.

Today I started reading the Bible again, this time in a new version, called Tree of Life Version. Read with me, if you like. Tree of Life Version is available to buy from Gateway Church in Southlake or their other locations, or on the Web free-of-charge at You Version. There will also be a Thinline Bible mass-production of it later this year. I am reading the Bible by sections, in the Hebrew order, one chapter from each section, for six days a week and resting on the seventh. Today I read Genesis chapter 1 from the Torah (or Pentateuch), Joshua chapter 1 from the Prophets, Psalm chapter 1 from the Writings, and Matthew chapter 1 from the "Re-born Covenant" (also known as the New Testament). Feel free to ask questions. Thanks and blessings.

Esperanto anonymous

I belong to Esperanto Klubo de Norda Teksaso (North Texas Esperanto Club—Esperanto is phonetic, you see).

Here are the reasons on our website ( http://www.esperanto-tx.org/ ) why to learn the Esperanto language, which is kind of based on Latin, Greek, German, Hebrew & English and compatible with Russian & Chinese grammar:

"Kial? Why should Americans learn Esperanto

1.Esperanto can be learned in less time than other languages.
2.It doesn't replace anyone's native language. It serves as a common second language.
3.It is politically, culturally, and religiously unbiased.
4.It has been tested in over 100 countries for more than 100 years.
5.It gives people of all ages, including children and senior citizens, a positive learning experience with rapid progress
6.It will bring you new friends from all over the world.
7.It brings understanding and helps you to cross barriers of culture and country.
8.It helps you to understand your own native English better.
9.You can read the great literature of the world.
10.It is great fun."

It is inevitable that this language was invented.  If the Jewish eye doctor in Poland didn't invent it, heavily based on Latin roots, someone else would have.  The Pope uses it.  The Bahá’ís use it.  The Gospels and the Koran is translated into it.  A cult in Brazil uses it.  The Chinese call it "World Language."  So I'll use it too, for the glory of God.  Don't tell anyone I'm a pacifist, even though I'm a security guard & believe in capital punishment.  My dad killed a Japanese pilot at the outbreak of American participation in World War II at Pearl Harbor (or they at least think so, he and the others on the USS Vega, and were awarded for it), before becoming a missionary to China and Japan, and I'm proud of all of that, but I'm a man of peace.

By the way, I met my first "Esperantist" (someone who speaks Esperanto) in about 1989 or 1990 in China, a Chinese intellectual—but he didn't actually talk to me in it, but in English.  I knew what language he was referring to because I had tried to learn it by myself in high school ten years before that from the public library (one of my favorite parts of a library is the language section, just before the 500s in non-fiction) in about 1980, but never heard it spoken (with an American accent) until 2008 when I sought it out.

Ĝis!  (Later!)

Poem: raw emotional pain

pain inside
emotional pain inside
hurts worse than appendicitis or hepatitis
more traumatic than broken bone or physical injury
heart is crying
virtual tear ducts flowing even if hidden inside
is there a band-aid available for this?
a balm from Gilead?
where is Saint Peter's shadow when you need it?
may I have the hem of Messiah's garment to touch?
will an MRI show this pain?
I know I'm not a hypochondriact
this pain is real
it runs deep
I think I'm the only one with this hidden pain
but I don't need Spock's brother to take me to the galaxy center
to fix it
Bible RX can do it
there is a way to heal
another Comforter to nurse me back to health
I am not alone
Someone feels this pain with me
only deeper
He can only groan so long before He can't stand it any more
then he fixes it

Poem: Fill your place

FILL YOUR PLACE
THERE'S NO ONE ELSE THAT CAN
A PREDESTINED TOOL
IN COSMOS MASTER'S HANDS
GOD NEVER FREAKS OUT
ABOUT SOMEONE
EACH RIPPLE IS ALREADY PLANNED
EACH FREE WILL MONITORED
AND STAMPED WITH PERMISSION
SOME BRING HEARTACHE
SOME BRING JOY
BUT GOD'S NEVER CAUGHT OFF GUARD
ALWAYS WORKS IT OUT AND SORTS IT THROUGH
ANSWERING WITH PLEASURE OR IN ANGER
YET ALWAYS LOVING—ALWAYS FAIR
AND THE WINNER IS TEAM GOD
TEAM SATAN LOSES
WHOSE SIDE WILL YOU CHOOSE TO BE ON?
DON'T FORGET TO SWITCH TO THE WINNING TEAM!
